Etsy Crush: Spring Things

I love the spring because it's the one time I really let myself be sweet, sappy and overly-romantic! Here's a few things I spotted on Etsy lately that got me in the Spring mood:

This Spring bunting has been upcycled from the 1906 book, The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady, which was written by Edith Holden and depicts in paintings the flora and fauna of the English countryside.

These small vintage lockets are hand painted with tiny pictures and fold up into a gold ball pendant. The pictures themselves are the same diameter as a dime!

Sold from Dublin, Ireland, I love the simple design of this Organzier/ Zen Garden. Simple, clean, and fresh. Why not bring a little outside to your desk?

Made by Tamar in Vermont, this bracelet has a real retro vibe, and I love the colors. It really satisfies my "frill" addiction, and the packaging is also adorable:

Etsy Crush Friday

Now, more than ever, I feel a strong desire to purchase items directly from the talented artists who made them. As a fellow creative who has often been paid far less than her worth, that desire has always been there, but now I feel it even stronger for obvious political reasons. We need to buy more from the source and nurture the arts. We need to take personal responsibility for our communities of artists and fund them directly. When they thrive, we thrive. I am so excited to see this idea flourishing more and more. It is unfortunate that it had to take an economic depression to do so, but I hope it sticks!

Tags for DSA

I'm so excited to start on DSA tags for my Etsy shop. Today I stitched up this cozy tag. I just might modify this for a set of gift tags for the holidays. I see some scrap calicoes in my future...

Don't Sew Angry on Etsy

I'm so excited to finally open shop at Etsy! I've been slowly adding items, including a few Rorscach tote bags, for those who don't want to try it themselves. I hope to be partnering with my husband to make some fabulous fabrics from his kaleidoscopic images, and soon I'll be whipping up another batch of my block-printed tree cards. Have a fabulous weekend, Creatives!

Faux-shopping for Fall

Ez at Creature Comforts recently asked us what our faux-shopping lists look like for fall. Here is my list. First and foremost, Autumn is pretty much non-existent in Florida, where I live. So my first wish is for leaves! I love the colors they make and I miss the Northeastern U.S. for this reason. I'm dreaming of a poncho, like this one by A.P.C, which I can layer with a nice turtleneck, and pair of short, flat booties. I'd love a chunky snood (if it were cold enough down here!). For texture, this ethnic, velvet bag from Monsoon is awesome, and I love these Current/Elliott skinny jeans, which are also corduroys! For the smell of the woods, I have (and want more of) this intoxicating Voluspa candle the scent of Golden Cypress. And finally, Gretchen Jones' terrific leather jewelry. Who doesn't want a part of her stunning new collection?

A P C wool poncho, $340; Pringle of Scotland long sweater, $495; Current/Elliott skinny jeans, $190; Monsoon crossbody handbag, £80; Gretchen Jones leather jewelry, $368; Gretchen Jones leather jewelry, $354; Voluspa Maison Candle Tin, $16; Mix No. 6 Aaron Bootie - Black, $50; Buy John Lewis Women Chunky Cable Knit Snood, £30

Iceland!

I'm back from my trip, and it was definitely one of the coolest trips I've ever been on. Iceland is a cultural powerhouse with rich knitting, lava ceramics, fabulous jewelry, eccentric and chic fashion, and innovative music. My husband and I traveled there for the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival, which showcases up-and-coming music from all over Europe and the United States with tons of local Icelandic groups. Over the next few posts, I'll be highlighting all the wonderful things we saw while we were there. But first (while I recuperate) an  inspiration board from Polyvore:

Oh yes, and did I mention we saw Bjork in concert from 10 feet away??
